Da first brought Mackenzie Bishop here four years ago, when she was twelve years old, frightened but determined to prove herself. Now Da is dead, and Mac has grown into what she once was, a ruthless Keeper, tasked with stopping often—violent Histories from waking up and getting out. Because of her job, she lies to the people she loves, and she knows fear for what it is: a useful tool for staying alive.

Being a Keeper isn’t just dangerous—it’s a constant reminder of those Mac has lost. Da’s death was hard enough, but now her little brother is gone too. Mac starts to wonder about the boundary between living and dying, sleeping and waking. In the Archive, the dead must never be disturbed. And yet, someone is deliberately altering Histories, erasing essential chapters. Unless Mac can piece together what remains, the Archive itself might crumble and fall.

This book was easily a 4.5 for me.

This book initially took me awhile to get into it. I picked it up from the library and stupidly left it as my last book to read. So by the time I got around to reading it I had to return it. I did, however, enjoy the book enough (100 pages in) to feel confident about buying it.

It is quite a complicated book in the beginning. At many points throughout the story the main character is narrating the story to her grandfather and it's written as "You did..." "You always..." etc. which was very confusing at the beginning of the story. I didn't understand what was really going on until I got a few more chapters into the book. You also don't really understand what the terms mean or what's actually going on but I don't want to fault an author for writing a complex story. Complexity is good!!! Eventually things make sense. Push through! It's worth it.

I really enjoyed Mackenzie Bishop as the main character. She's very young and you can definitely tell by some of the choices she makes. She doesn't ask for help or give information easily. Information that may be beneficial to solving the mystery. On the other hand, she's been told many times to not trust others. My heart ached for her many times. She was very young and had to take on a great responsibility alone.

I kind of went into this book blind so I wasn't expecting any romance. I was pleasantly surprised. Sign...Owen. Sigh.....Guyliner (Wes) They were both great characters but Wes definitely won me over with his sense of humor and charming personality.

The story was unlike anything I'd read before. It was so different and creative I had no idea where the story was headed. The twist at the end was exciting and not what I expected. I definitely plan on picking up The Unbound soon.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01939562302009379923noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3090595979166245690.post-64041065307226523692014-04-11T08:50:00.003-07:002014-04-11T08:51:06.848-07:00BookTube IntroductionHey everyone!!
BUT she had a lot of development and by the end of the book I definitely respected her a lot more. She went from stubborn, rude, and helpless to open, understanding, and self sufficient. Also, Perry and Roar are both great characters and I'd love to read books solely about them.

I also really enjoyed getting a peak into Perry's head.

I was obviously in a reading slump the month of March but I don't know if this book caused my slump or if my slump affected my and opinion and motivation to finish the book.

Love 180 (possible spoiler!): So while this book definitely doesn't have insta-love, it does have an immediate 180 of hate turning into love. It wasn't long and painful enough for me haha! I didn't get any butterflies or the like when they finally kissed. I was simply like, "Oh...cool." But again I'm crazy and love being tortured!

Lack of World Building: I started off confused with some things like:

What exactly is an aether storm?

What caused it?

Is the entire planet covered in Tribes and Pods?

Why did the people separate initially?

What exactly was The Unity?

But I trusted that eventually I'd learn these things if I pressed on. Alas, the answers did not come. So I'm left still confused and slightly frustrated. I have not read the remainder of the series though, so maybe the answers still wait for me.
Overall:
It was good but it didn't blow me away. I can't explain why I couldn't connect with the characters. Honestly, I want to give it another try one day and see if my opinion changes. I am interested in continuing with the series and seeing where the story goes. By the way, if any of my questions were answered in the book, I'd love to know! Sometimes I'm a bad reader and as many times as I set this book down, I definitely may have skipped or forgotten things.
I ran another blog for years, pathetically might I add. I rarely updated and was all over the place. It was pretty frustrating and I had no passion for it. Over the last six months I've rediscovered my love for not only reading but writing again, so felt like the right choice to revamp everything.

Thus the birth of Novel Diva!

I am so excited to start this journey and share my love of books. Even more so, I'm excited to meet and communicate with you! I cannot wait to share my reviews, hauls, challenges and more!

If you write a book blog please share it in the comments. I can't wait to get started!
